Foreign Languages Empty Foreign Languages

Post  Henry Sat Mar 06, 2010 1:55 am

Ok, this just dawned on me. How awesome would it be to have an entire unit speaking in another language? (french, german, spanish etc)

I know for a fact that we have quite a few germans here, i myself am a frenchie

Just, come on, how badass would this be? Razz

and for practicality, we could yell out stuff like "mark flank left" and people wouldn't get it (most of the time)

it'd also be pretty darn intimitating.

what do you guys think about this?

I agree with Aaron
...And anyways.... honestly what language, other than perhaps Russian, or norwegian, or somethin like that, would be more intimidating than German?

I can use a lot of simple German, but I don't know how to say things that relate to tactics/war. For example, "Flank left" or "Check my 6" etc.

Plus it'd be too much discipline and complications, as well as the order being almost pointless because it'd take a second for the other members to mentally translate.

well, i'm pretty sure me and my french buddy could do this. We'd have things like:

Avancez rapidment- Advance quickly
Avancez a droit/gouche- Advance to the right/left
Avec moi, allez- With me, go
Retournez a la base- return to the base
Il y a deux enemies la bas- there are two enemies over there
Il y a deux enemies a onze heures- there are two enemies at 11 O'clock
Ouvre la porte- open the door (like breaching)

see? it's totally possible to speak in another language, and i'm only in second year french. I plan to take my french buddie to tac-tac next week to try this out.

Mmmk thank you for that pointless and slightly racist post that has almost nothing to do with the topic... Another language can be intimidating but I don't think it's worth the trouble

Yeah that was almost as pointless as your comment about how no one (you) cant use another language in battle, and it was mostly an inside joke.

First of all, inside jokes are only funny to the people involved, and if that other person's not around, it's not funny, so why post? Two, you guys don't need to fight over the forum, it was meant to share ideas, not bash on each other, plus Ford's post did have merit, as opposed to yours. I agree that if your'e not fluent in a language, it'll take some time to translate, and it'll probably be valuable time, that could cost you the game. So, just stop dissing each other and let it go. It's pointless and dumb.

Thanks Brandon. So from what I've gathered let's just forget about this idea. People hardly communicate in battle anyways... We're not very organized. If we had an organized group who all had equally fluent foreign languages so ahead and try it, I just don't think it works too well. Btw Lead Farmer who the hell are you that was your first post...

German is very easy to speak for English speakers, easy pronunciation, but memorizing things and the grammar will trip up people in a game

However it's commonly used for war simulations (WWI and WWII anyone?)
